Intelligent Alerting & Rule Engine
KpiX evaluates incoming telemetry against your rules in real time and fires alerts automatically - whether the logic runs in the cloud or at the device edge.
Two Rule Engines
Cloud Rules
Server-side rules evaluate every telemetry message as it arrives in the cloud.
- Define rules at the model level - automatically applied to all assets of that type
- Override rules at the individual asset level for fine-grained control
- Deploy and undeploy rules instantly, without downtime
- Evaluate any combination of telemetry properties and conditions
Edge Rules (Pro & Premier)
On-device rules execute locally on the KpiX Gateway, without a cloud round-trip.
- Deploy with sub-second latency for time-critical automation
- Define at model level, sync to all assets of that type
- Per-asset override support
- Full create, update, delete, and sync lifecycle management
- Critical for environments with intermittent connectivity
Alert Lifecycle
Once a rule fires, KpiX manages the full alert lifecycle:
| Stage | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Triggered | Alert created with start timestamp and severity |
| Active | Alert visible in asset view and fleet dashboard |
| Acknowledged | Operator records resolution reason |
| Closed | Alert end event recorded with close timestamp |
- View all active and historical alerts per asset
- Track precise incident duration (start → end timestamps)
- Alert count summaries and day-wise histograms for trend analysis
Notification Routing
When an alert fires, KpiX can automatically route it to:
- Email (via SendGrid)
- SMS (via BulkSMS)
- Mobile push notification (iOS & Android)
- Real-time browser alert via WebSocket - no page refresh
See Notifications for delivery channel configuration.
Key Benefits
- Dual rule engine - cloud-side for breadth, edge for speed
- Model-level rules - define once, apply to the entire fleet
- Zero-downtime deployment - update rules without disrupting connected devices
- Full audit trail - every alert has a complete lifecycle record
